Every Redwood student receives an individualized intervention plan built around their unique baseline, progress rate, and end goals. Not one learning journey is the same as another.

Built Around Your Schedule

You pick the days and times your child meets with their online instructor. Best results are seen with longevity and consistency. A minimum dosage of twice-weekly sessions for at least three consecutive months is recommended to get started.

Every month, you get a progress report that outlines which skills your child has mastered, which ones they are currently working on, and what is coming up. We hold ourselves accountable for ensuring that the results are documented and communicated.

Data is powerful. At Redwood, we administer reading assessments and dyslexia screeners to help families make important decisions about their child's educational journey, or advocate for additional services.

At Redwood Literacy, We Offer Online:

- Feifer Assessment of Reading/Dyslexia Screening Form (FAR-SF):

‍The FAR-SF is a brief assessment designed to identify children at risk for developmental dyslexia by measuring the underlying processes of reading. This assessment will tell you the level of risk your child has of developing dyslexia and if it is high enough to warrant further assessment. It usually takes around 20 - 30 minutes.

- Feifer Assessment of Math - Dyscalculia Screening Form (FAM - SF)

The FAM-SF is a brief assessment designed to identify children at risk for dyscalculia by measuring the underlying cognitive processes required for mathematical achievement. This assessment will tell you the level of risk your child has of developing dyscalculia and if it is high enough to warrant further assessment or intervention. This assessment does not provide an official diagnosis of dyscalculia. It usually takes around 20 - 30 minutes.

- Word Identification and Spelling Test (WIST):

The WIST is a norm-referenced assessment that assesses a student's Word Identification, Spelling, and Sound Symbol Knowledge about their peers.

- Gray Oral Reading Test - 5th Edition (GORT-5):

The GORT-5 is a norm-referenced assessment that measures a student's reading Fluency (Rate + Accuracy) and Comprehension in relation to their peers.

Does online tutoring actually work for kids with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia?

Yes! We've worked with an independent researcher since providing online services (2020), and the results are clear. Online tutoring is just as effective as in-person tutoring on average for our student population. If, after the three-month mark, we determine that online instruction is not working for your child, we will be transparent. It usually takes a bit of time to build rapport and learn the online tutoring structure, so be prepared for an adjustment period.

Where are you located?

Our headquarters are in the original Chicago storefront in Rogers Park, and now in Lincoln Park. However, our services can be accessed anywhere online, with access to an internet connection.
