Meet the Rogers Park team

Sammi Oberman - Rogers Park Site Manager

I studied Human Development and Education at Northwestern University and went on to earn my Master’s in Special Education, where I became a Certified Special Education teacher (LBS1) and a Certified Wilson® Dyslexia Practitioner. My favorite part of my job is seeing the joy in my students as their confidence grows, and they start reaching for books on their own for the first time.

Liesl Goetz - Intervention Specialist

I am a certified Wilson® Dyslexia Practitioner, certified Montessori Early Childhood Educator (Go Redwood at my old stomping grounds: Alcuin!), and have a passion for lifelong learning. I love helping students find joy in their own learning and gain confidence in their ability to navigate the great unknown, both academically and in the greater world.

Aymi Melo - Intervention Specialist

I obtained my Special Education degree from the Philippines. I am passionate about advocating for underserved and marginalized children, which led me to establish a preschool for children who faced economic and learning challenges in my home country. Previously, I worked as an instructional assistant at Redwood Day School. Currently, I am pursuing a degree in mental health counseling to better understand and assist the population I serve. It brings so much joy to witness children overcoming their challenges, recognizing their potential, and helping them achieve success.

Nora Gallagher - Lead Intervention Specialist

I am a Certified Wilson® Dyslexia Practitioner and have been teaching at Redwood’s Rogers Park location for about five years now, and I cannot get enough! As an avid reader myself, I believe education and literacy skills are not only basic rights that all people deserve but also provide essential ways to learn and connect to the world around us. I love that my job allows me to be a part of my students' literacy journey, and to be able to see their confidence and love for reading grow in them.

Julia Binder - Intervention Specialist

I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Oberlin College. I majored in Religion with a focus on political rhetoric, and I completed an Education Studies concentration. I have experience as a writing tutor, I have studied the pedagogy of second language acquisition, and I have instructed ESOL courses. I have completed the Wilson Reading System® introductory coursework and am currently completing my supervised practicum as my final step toward certification. I love working with my students to develop a growth mindset. It brings me joy when they begin to recognize their ability to crack the code of literacy and start to discover the magic of reading and writing.
