Every K–8 teacher knows them: the students who are bright, trying hard, and still falling behind in reading. This free 90-minute workshop is for the teachers who want a faster, more precise way to see what’s going on with those kids and what to do about it inside a normal class period.
What we’ll cover
- Decoding vs. comprehension in ten minutes. How to tell from a two-minute reading sample which one is actually broken, and why the fix is completely different.
- Four routines that fit a normal class period. No pull-out, no new curriculum, no extra planning block.
- What to say when a parent asks “is it dyslexia?” The line that is honest, useful, and doesn’t put you in the middle.
- Which kid needs more than you can give. How to spot the student who needs intervention, and how to hand that off without it feeling like a failure.
Who it’s for
K–8 classroom teachers, reading interventionists, special educators, and instructional coaches in and around East Nashville. Public, private, charter, and homeschool co-op teachers are all welcome. Bring a colleague.

About PD hours: In Tennessee, professional development points are submitted by the educator in TNCompass and approved by your district’s designee, not by the provider. We give you a certificate with the date, topic, hours, and presenter so you have what your district asks for. Check with your PD designee before you count on the hours.
Who’s teaching it
Kait Feriante, co-founder of Redwood Literacy and a national dyslexia expert, with Andre Feriante. Redwood has served 3,500 students across 22 states since 2018 and now runs a founder-led learning center in East Nashville.
